We Treat the Whole Student, Not Just the Symptom.

Academic trouble is rarely just about the subject. It is often caused by disorganization, lack of motivation, fear, stress, and anxiety. FocalPoint’s academic coaching addresses the whole person — and that is what makes the difference.

What We Address

Focus Your Mind

Focus is a skill. Like any skill, it can be taught, practiced, and improved. Our focusing strategies help students learn to pay attention longer, stay on task, and complete their work. Students with ADHD find this work particularly helpful. We use body movement, simple relaxation techniques, and structured focus practice to help students build the attention capacity they need. Focus and balance use the same part of the brain. Some of our students do balance-related activities as part of their focus work — it sounds unusual, but it works.

Relieve Stress and Anxiety

Many students get stressed during homework time and at school. This stress can lead to test anxiety, avoidance, and discipline problems. We teach students how to offset stress as they work using body movement and simple relaxation strategies. Students who learn these tools become more successful in the classroom with fewer discipline problems and a calmer experience of school.

Success Strategies

Some students know they want to succeed but have learned to tell themselves they can’t. They have trouble with motivation, organization, and follow-through. We work with students on goal-setting, organization systems, and overcoming the emotional blocks that come with academic struggle. We also work with parents — offering concrete, practical strategies so you can support your student at home in ways that actually work. All behavior is an attempt to meet a need. When we understand what a student needs, we can help them meet it in ways that serve their success rather than derail it.
